sorrow in the words Jesus spoke to them,
“you will desert me in my time of need.”
How those words must have hung heavy
a yoke heavy upon them
as they journeyed from the upper room
to pray at Gethsemane
walking by the Temple Mount
along the side of the Kidron Valley
by the graves of the dead
up the Mount of Olives
to pray at Gethsemane.
these words of Jesus,
an ache each one carried,
each of the disciples, sorrowful,
“you will all become deserters
you will all run away
none of you will stand
when I weather the storm
you will all run away
you will desert me
I will be left alone
with my enemies”.
