even when we hide it

even when we hide it
when we seek to keep
God’s light hidden
the clay of our bodies
the reeds of our basket
the bushel of our bodies
cannot contain the light
the scripture is itself a message
the language of a basket
the clay of our bodies
cannot hide God’s light
but we must proclaim God’s love
we must speak it out loud
