His Palette of Winter

In whites and grays
in winds and in ice
bluish, darker,
a foreboding of cold

His palette of winter
of light, of shadow
bright colors of clothing
and the whisper of spring

Fires blazing, embers,
smoke wafting on the frigid
the chill in the air
gripping us, pushing us inside

Skies foreboding,
a glimpse of soft sun
hope in the slumber
of the spring days to come
