As he passed by me
all of us joyful
jockeying for position
as the palms waved
shouting hosanna
to the king
Christ entering Jerusalem
hot and dusty
the cloaks and branches falling
carpeting the road
softening his steps
Joy that afternoon
before the Passover
hope we would free us
once more that our chains
would be loosened
that our people would be free
