giving away our chains

in our world, the nation
in our society, our hearts
the possessions we own
the things of this earth
like chains around our souls
hanging heavy on lives

giving away our chains,
a simpler life to live
focused instead
on the way of the Lord
finding how we can give
offering hope, love
to the world
all who need our helping hand

going where the Lord would lead
wherever that may be
sharing our bounty
that which the Lord has provided
to our brothers, our sisters in needed
letting down the chains of this earth
picking up our cross, the yoke instead
