The Rough Hewn Cross – v5

The rough hewn cross
benches for the congregation
some now dead, spirits
ashes of the faithful
lying at our feet

The granite pieces
part of our land
this place, home
serving as your altar
before your rugged cross

Standing in the pulpit
imaging the many parishioners
whose spirits yet remain
those who had come to this sanctuary
saints who have gone before
