Soak Me in Love

Every bit of my being
in every fiber
soak me in love
the source of all strength

Teach me to live
to walk in your grace
guide me home
that I may see your face

Oh God, my Savior
the ruler of my life
show me the way
to bring others into life

Wash me clean
give me a pure heart
that I may be filled
that I may be poured out

Worthy of What We Proclaim

Stand up Mr. President
shake off the diplomatic language
the stakes never higher
in this part of the world

We must be consistent
secure in our convictions
believing in our creed
that all peoples must be free

We are to be a beacon
a light to the other nations
believing in freedoms
as universal rights

We must speak out
but more, we must act,
worthy of what we proclaim
consistent in our posture

Standing with the people
the martyrs yearning to breathe free
willing to die for what we have
what we hold dear

Every nation worthy
of our compassion
our assistance
Our self-interest in their freedom
not in the false security of power

to speak out and act in the Middle East
to stand with the people
yearning to breathe free
and not worrying about the results,
that it is always right to stand for basic human rights
&
on the transformations since the beginning of January -
all the protests in Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Oman,
Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Palestinian Territories, Djibouti, Mauritania, Senegal, Saudi Arabia, etc.

Do you feel him
are you warmer
the Son is shining
brighter than human hands
a beacon in the night

We are to carry
the light to the nations
our salt bearing witness
to the power of the Creator
the grace of our Savior
Redeeming us from death

Shining White

His countenance changed
imbued with God’s love
his clothes dazzling
becoming shining white

Are we aglow
is our face lit up
shining with God’s glory
do we share the love of Christ

Are we truly his witnesses
his ambassadors in the world
do we shine the love of Jesus
into the darkness of this world

A challenge entering Lent
the somber holy season
focusing on the love of God
and sharing the light within us

Shining white into the darkness
brighter than earthy treasure
bringing Christ to our neighbors
planting seeds of hope within them

Giving up the world
in the Lenten season
a fast from our focus
on the clay of ourselves

Standing on the mountain
with Peter, with Joshua
hearing God’s holy message
and sharing it with the world

Blessed, in Our Time

Blessed, in our time
to carry his light
living after He is risen
sitting on high
We are his witnesses
down through the ages
following where we are led
out into the world
Carrying the light
burning within us
bearing the love of God
to everyone we meet
Living in communion
in connection with our neighbors
lovingly sharing Christ
to the ends of the earth

Living After He Has Risen

The proof already seen
the words always true
empowered by the Spirit
we are made brand new

Christ seated in glory
preparing paradise
he will come as he promised
to bring us to his side

Living after He has risen
fulfilling the law, prophecy
emboldened by his witness
to set the captives free

Walk boldly Christians
carry his banner high
standing as a witness
of his healing us inside

Bear the holy message
the redeeming of God’s grace
nothing we can say or do
to bring us to our God

Only the love of God
the coming of the Son
the one who walked the earth
who went to the rugged cross

Please Listen to Him

God in claiming Jesus
up on the mountain
saying the words,
“this is my son”;
but more than this was said
He said to “listen to him”,
if we want to live
Maybe it is implied
but let us raise it as a prayer
to add the word “please”
that we would listen to him
and follow in his ways

A Change Came Over Jesus

The telling of Transfiguration
one of the greatest understatements of time
“a change came over Jesus”
something far more than sublime
He was glorified on the mountain
raised up from the clay
forever changed in an instant
for this grace we praise
God speaking a message
“this is my son,
listen to him”
The commissioning
of the carpenter
to go to the cross
to pay the sacrifice
A change came over Jesus
more over all of creation
in that moment when he
became whiter than white
redeeming us from death
the die cast in that moment
God’s love pouring out on us
the world made brand new

Up on the mountain
under the heavenly cloud
coming close to God
hearing his word for us

Changed forever
under the cloud
the voice of God
claiming his Son

The word of God
not written on stone
imprinted on the Christ
made whiter than white

In the reminiscent moment
Moses taking Joshua
climbing the mountain
Christ and the disciples
under the cloud of God

God speaking
claiming Jesus
firing him holy
steeling his clay
readied for the journey

Like Moses on the mountaintop
his face made bright
Christ on the mountaintop
made whiter than white

Prepared for the journey
to Jerusalem
leading to betrayal
the way to the cross

Christ made ready
imbued with God’s love

What began in heaven
Christ descended to the manger
wrapped in clay
the flesh of this earth

Feeling you with me
molding my clay
firing my with your spirit
imprinted with your touch
transformed by your love

the spirit guiding me on

The Lord’s Table

We partake
get a foretaste
the feast of heaven
at the Lord’s Table

Bowing before him
at the altar rail
taking the bread the cup
remembering his sacrifice

Hearing the words
his body broken
his blood poured out
murmuring praises to him

As we eat of the supper
he shared here on earth
knowing, perhaps in part,
the power of that moment

Before the cup in the garden
his prayers to be passed by
submitting his will to God
taking the cup to his lips

Before his betrayal
before they ran away
yet he stayed faithful to God
going to the cross

Kneeling at the Lord’s Table
each doing their part
filled with the memory of him
going with Christ in our heart

Living After He Is Risen

The admonition to be silent
to not say what God said
to wait for his rising
his rising from the dead

No longer applicable
two thousand years hence
able to shout from the rooftops
just what God said

This is my child
my living son
listen to him, to what he said
God’s love come down

Teaching us how to live
to walk in this life
to act as a servant
loving all that we meet

Living after he is risen
blessed we are
to feel him with him
to see him in each star

carrying his light

Under the Boot of the Madman

The struggle for freedom
cloaked in his repression
the protesters taken away
abducted in the night

The people fearful
hearing mixed messages
lies and the truth
a blur in their sight

Under the boot of the madman
fighting for power

Freedom to Assemble

Happy to consider
the profound difference
the freedoms we cherish
to pray for their struggle
to shake off the yoke
the boot of their oppressor
to enjoy the freedom to assemble
to speak out for justice
to set the captives free

So much we take for granted
as we did yesterday
gathering to decide our budget
as a people together
in the power of our voices
to forge our own agreement
on what our future will be

Mindful of the difference
the world taking notice
the people of the countries
yearning to be free
We must we with them
standing against the tyrants
we must act as a nations

Thankful for the Difference

Stopping in our worship
offering up a praise
a thanksgiving for our freedom
thankful for the difference
what we take for granted
than over so much of the earth

Able to gather as a people
to debate freely, without fear
all of us as equals
hearing other voices
to reach a consensus, a decision
coming out of our freedoms
our voices, speaking as one

So unlike the stories
we are watching on the news
thankful for our freedoms
and the price paid for them
so many sacrificing
standing against oppression
serving our nation willingly
so we may enjoy our freedoms

The star that guided their way
the love that fired his clay
the light of God that guides us
that shows us the way

Epiphany to Transfiguration
beginning, ending in light
showing us the way to God
how to live in life

Seeking the holy one
the babe, the living God
the one who climbed the mountaintop
the word, the one made flesh

Seeing who he really is
the man transformed, made pure
hardening his living clay
made a vessel for love

Ready for that journey
that led to Jerusalem
filled with the power of God
the Son of God, of Man
