He came unto his own

God alive, come to earth

come to his people

to give them new birth

but his own, his people

received him not

captured, convicted

got him crucified

his own received him not, his own received him not

his own received him not,

his very own received him not.

more true than we want to admit

Christ here with us; but

we are not moved, we do not believe

we do not change our walk

The light in this darkness

the light of the living God

God here, down from heaven

come to change the world;

but his own received him not

the ones he loves the most

we turned out back on the Christ

and fell in love with the world

he came to us

we did not receive him

those who claim his name

the darkness comprehended it not – 2

the darkness did not see

could not understand, comprehend

God’s light, God’s word, Christ

alive in the world

not able to see,

the darkness within itself

only able to see darkness

nothing else

the light shineth in darkness - 2

Jesus was in the world

the light shineth in darkness

but the darkness was not able

darkness comprehended it not

Light was alive, here with us

light to save us all

but we saw it not

the sad truth, the judgment

the light was in the world

but the world did not comprehend

the darkness did not understand

because the darkness only knows itself

it can only see the dark

You, your life, your witness, this light

a light in the world, piercing the dark

You are the proof of the existence of God

by reason, by voice, sharing the word

You are the proof, the promise within

light for the world, oh let it begin

You are the life, the light for the people

sharing your faith richly, as you are able
