Denying the living God
these leaders of the people
words to indict them
at the courts of the palace
the words before Pilate
claiming allegiance
to serve only Caesar
not the God of their ancestors
false priests committing blasphemy
naked for all to see
convicted of their own words
making themselves unclean

Four Roman Soldiers
Four Roman soldiers
at the foot of the cross
dividing his clothes between them
casting lots for the last
That it would not be broken
The ancient words fulfilled
the psalm, the sign they needed
all which was foretold
coming true before them
at the cross of Jesus

Denying God Kingship
The leaders guilty of blasphemy
what they accused of Jesus
but He spoke the truth
for He is the Son of God
They broke the commandments
the Law of almighty God
denying God kingship
in their shouts to Pilate that day
Claiming they had no other king
save for Caesar, a mortal
denying God first position
the people of the book
He had been their King
before he sent them judges
before the prophets,
the kings of Israel, of Judah
He was their King eternal

the ancient words of the psalmist
coming alive, revealed

Joined at the cross
His earthly and spiritual family
joined at the cross
in the words Christ spoke while dying
“here is your mother;
here is your son”
She already had other sons
yet they were of her flesh
He wanted to join her
with his disciples
his brothers in His walk
Joining them together
there at the cross
in his words of union
Christ ensuring the ministry
redeeming them from the lost
The church expanding
her grief, her pain assuaged
in this word of life, joining
the physical and the spiritual
one family, one body, one love

those who remained at the foot of the cross

a crown of thorns
a crown of thorns for Jesus
anger from the world
the guards, the soldiers
twisted, far from home
a crown of thorns for Christ
the Son of the living God
the King of heaven ridiculed

a crown of thorns mocking
blood upon his face

Listen to Christ - 2
The same message on the mountain
the moment of transfiguration
the disciples falling to their knees
a voice from the highest heaven
was the same happening in the courts
in the halls of Caesar’s power
when Pilate asked the prayer,
“What is truth?”, of God before him
One in all history who could have answered
to open the gates of heaven
a foretaste of paradise
but too busy, in motion
to listen to the Christ

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice. Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.”

Actually seek the truth
Don’t ask the question,
“What is truth?”,
if you’re not ready to listen
to actually seek the truth
a profound moment
Christ before Caesar
the answer to all of his questions
standing before him,
asking the right question
but unable to listen
the die already cast
swept up in the tide

Pilate had asked the right question – v2
Pilate had asked the right question
of the One who could answer
but not a true question
one which he wanted to ask
perhaps blurted out
from deep within him
yet not waiting to listen
to listen to the Christ
What would have happened
what would have been the outcome
the word of Truth for him
from the mouth of God
would the walls have crumbled
would heaven had opened
if the representative of Caesar
have listened to him

What if Pilate had listened to Jesus
He had asked the right question
in the midst of the storm
he had the opening
life evermore
What if Pilate had listened to Jesus
that he was a king,
offering truth
that he may live
What if Pilate had waited
to hear Christ’s answer
the question, “What is truth?”,
left hanging in midair.

seek God’s justice
Like the widow praying
seeking God’s justice
that He would hear our petitions
our cries out of his great love
God is the good judge
not like the one she petitioned
wanting good for our lives
welling up out of his great love

that He would hear our petitions
our cries out of his great love
God is the good judge
not like the one she petitioned
wanting good for our lives
welling up out of his great love

Let the trumpets sound
Let the trumpets sound
all who are saved
God has changed forever
the destiny, our fate
God has put us through the fires
God has saved us
not going down to Sheol, to death
God gave us light
God’s love never fails us

God is the Good Judge
God hears the cries of his people
their petitions to him
quick in His mercy
His justice for them
God is the good judge
He will answer
the prayers of the faithful
raised up to Him
He will faithfully answer
our prayers lifted up

Pilate’s Question – v3
Pilate judging Jesus
but finding no fault
in Caesar’s palace
Christ naming himself a king
of the highest heaven
that he speaks God’s Truth
before all the nations
Pilate’s question,
“What is truth?”
yet not waiting for an answer
a pause, moving on,
sending him to death;
fearing His answer
Christ’s blood on his hands

Pilate’s Question - v2
Pilate judging Jesus
but finding no fault
in Caesar’s palace
Christ naming himself a king
of the highest heaven

yet not waiting for an answer
a pause, moving on
sending him to death
fearing the answer

Christ announced, I Am a King
Standing before Pilate
in the courts of Rome
silent no longer
Christ announced
directly answered
I am a king, just not of this world
No threat to Rome
only to the leaders

Evil, in the waiting room of Evil
The Jews, the priests, the leaders
standing there, not entering in
not going into the palace
for that would make them unclean
yet what they were doing
more evil than that
seeking to take the life
of Christ, the living God
Ridiculous, false piety,
the canard of their rules
Evil, in the waiting room of evil
evil over the world
princes of darkness
seeking to blot out the light
the rules, a falsehood
a false trial, convicting our God

Not to be unclean
Wanting a rush to judgment
injustice, not to be unclean
to get on with the dinner

Just the fact of fulfillment
The different tellings, the gospels
each with a different spin, a different purpose
Peter’s betrayal, denying the Christ
here just the fact
the fulfillment of Christ’s prophecy
something to hold onto
to understand his word
foretelling the calling
to be the shepherd of Christ
his renewed call to Peter
to feed Christ’s sheep

Pray out of believing
Pray out of believing
pray without ceasing
trusting God to answer
our fervent petitions
Lift up your hands
offer to the nations
hope in his promise
to always be true
Pray out of believing
mountains can be moved
off of their pinions
God can do anything
we just have to believe
