Income Redistribution

So much of what we are struggling with
as a people as a nation
what can we learn from them
how they chose to live
what lessons from the church
of one mind, one heart
income redistribution
sharing all, from one purse
their wealth, their treasure sold
the proceeds at the disciples’ feet
to each as they had need
that none would have want
what can we learn for our time
with the way that they walked

FREE DINNER // Worship service

There will be a free dinner - Our Family’s Table – Chicken Cordon Blu casserole, marinated vegetables, tossed salad, with bread, and desserts – 4/11/2012, 5:00 – 6:15pm, - Suncook United Methodist Church, 152 Main Street, Suncook, NH – dinner served at 5:30pm.

Handicapped accessible via ramp and lift.

Dinners are held from September to early June.

There are also 2+ tables of FREE bread and rolls/ English muffins/ bagel thins.

There will be a worship service after the meal, led by Pastor Ruth Foss

Not that they were all wealthy
nothing of the sort

none going without

I did not hide my face from insults and spitting

The tears of Mary, of the disciples
in his Passion, his suffering
the king facing humiliation
He did not turn, Christ did not call on angels
he did not hide his face from the insults and spitting
the Sanhedrin, the Roman guards, even the common people
our Savior suffering, as a lowly slave
He did not turn, he did not falter
not a word, not a disciple
none did he lose

I gave my back to those who struck me

Christ could sing the servant song
he live out the verses
the pain he suffered
the humiliation God faced
Christ was fully human
so the torture caused him pain
yet he submitted fully
drinking every drop
of the cup of sorrows
he gave his all unto God
he gave his back to those who struck him
going to the cross

the Word of the living God
Christ come from heaven
to walk here with us
To teach us of God’s love
to preach the good news
to care for the hurting
all the people of earth
and being of this earth
in the garb of flesh

born in human likeness

in the image of God
for he is God incarnate
yet born in human likeness
the frailty of our flesh
walking as a mortal
feeling all our pain
tempted as we are
yet being a slave
humble to God
submissive to his plan
drinking the cup
going to the cross
Christ emptied of power
yet filled with Spirit
guided as God would lead
faithful in full measure

the cloak of poverty
the skin of the clay
swallowed by the dust
humble to God’s path

Christ took the form of a slave
emptied of God’s power
walking as a man
humble to God’s calling

Christ emptied himself

Though he was God
the Word alive
the Word made flesh
come to the earth
Christ emptied himself
donning the skin of clay
the dust, the dirt
to walk our way
Christ emptied himself
becoming a shell
a slave of the Master
to be filled, to be poured out
going as he was led
according to God’s plan
becoming a slave
obedient to the cross

God descended from heaven
walking as Jesus
the Messiah long foretold
the Savior, the head
God became a slave

God humbled Himself

God emptied his power
God humbled himself
abandoning his kingdom
to walk as a man

God humbled himself
a slave to the nations
a sacrifice for our sin
on the altar of Golgotha

Submitting himself
the priest in the Temple
offering himself
on the altar of the cross

Suffering, dying
buried for our sake
rising, victorious
to his throne in heaven

God humbled himself
Christ lived out the Passion
as a mortal man
not shutting out the pain

Christ was the Paschal Lamb
given to save us
submitting his body
on the altar of the cross

obedient to the point of death

The truth of his coming
what it means to love
to love as Christ did
descending from above

Obedient unto God
all that he was
obedient to the point of death
even to the cross

Life as we knew it
should be different because of this
the blessing of the Savior
his sacrifice of bliss

Healing us by his death
by his resurrection life
sent to serve in his world
to bear joyfully his light

The high priest climbing the altar
becoming the sacrifice
but more to teach us
to share with us in this life
Christ’s ministry continuing
even as he died

caring for us ever, faithful,
until his life was done

That he would become thirsty

Something of a mystery
the living water becoming thirsty
that he would know thirst
even on the cross

The desire of our Savior
to complete this awful duty
to finish his time on the cross
to rise to victory

was the price Christ gave for us

Christ spoke from the cross
the first a word to share
the answer to all our prayers
in the prayer of the risen Christ
He is God incarnate
the Son of the Living God
praying to God in heaven
but speaking the answer to our prayers

My God, My God
Christ’s shout to the heavens
as if God had forsaken him
but richer than that
The prayer familiar
the prayer of the righteous
calling out to God
to come be near him
that he would feel his presence
as had the ancients,
the ultimate in trust
and in praise of our God

Refilling the Spirit

One Spirit within us
given by Christ
at our baptism indwelling
giving us life

Yet refilling the Spirit
as we are poured out
emptied to be filled
a blessing of love

Emptied again
refilled with God’s Spirit
a cycle forever
as we are vessels

Filled with the Spirit
Christ in our lives
giving as He did

Christ didn’t suggest that we like each other

Christ was explicit, not mincing words
he didn’t make a casual suggestion
a hint we should like one another
Christ gave a commandment
that we must love
love each other as He has loved
going to the cross

Christ didn’t suggest that we like each other
nothing so plain as that
Christ commanded us to love unconditionally
just as he loves us
He proved it, setting an example
washing the disciples feet
reinforced by cup he drank
going to the cross

Christ washed my feet

I can hear the others
shocked to see the Master
stripped as a servant
bowing before us
coming forward
around the upper room
washing each one of our feet
each of us in turn
Christ washed my feet
to remind me I am a servant
no servant greater than the Master
and Christ humbled himself
none of us better
all to be servants
offering love to our neighbors
to all whom we meet

Christ’s blood of the covenant
the Passover of the Lord
the grace of almighty God
knowing our sin, yet protecting us with blood
the new covenant sealed
the doorframes the lintels
the hearts of the people
marked with the blood
the sacrifice of Jesus
the Lamb on the cross

I will execute judgment

God in his righteousness
the law stark before him
our disobedience
our lack of conformance
Failed as a people
drowning in sin
bound by the judgment
our conviction within

I will execute judgment
as the first Passover
the cost of disobedience
must be fully paid
Failed as a people
drowning in sin
but the Lamb took our place
the Son stepping in

The cup in his hand
the stain of our sin
the cup in our hand
the blood of our Covenant
our Savior’s sacrifice
drinking of his grace
his gift to the nations
remember always
the price that Christ paid
