Called to Freedom

We, in this land of plenty,
the hope of the world,
in the words, the meaning,
in our celebration about to begin,
the celebration of our birthing,
the freedoms we honor,
so long as they are not perverted,
tainted by the flesh,
Noble freedom, when blessed,
when nurtured, when there is
the indwelling of the Spirit,
the infused love of God,
the believing in the words,
the equality of all the people
Ours is a freedom of hope
a spiritual grounding in our birth
the belief we shared, and still do today
Shaken from our yoke of slavery
so long as we don’t put on a new one
