Was the Dream a Lie

Did we come undone
believe in ourselves alone
believing the myth of freedom
making it on our own

Did we believe we could success
without the hand of God
did we settle for the brass ring
not for treasure unknown

Was the dream a lie
the myth of self-made men
believing greed was good
standing on our neighbors

All of this a lie,
a con to keep of striving
believing we too could become like them
the barons on the mountain
