We have bankrupted the country

Confessing more of our sins
the private and the corporate
squandering the resources we have been given
pillaging this earth

We have bankrupted the country
wasting the great abundance we share
offering almost nothing to those in need
keeping too much for ourselves

Confessing more of our sins
as we enter the Lenten season
sitting here in silence, in ashes
wanting a change in our lives

We have bankrupted the country
now we are bound by our debt
Lord free us for service
call Spirit, we want to be led
