Overtaken by them
a menace growing,
slowly, rising,
driving southward
through the city
focused on the
traffic, the lights,
many miles to go.
A presence moving
quickly
stalking all of
us moving
lost in our inner
thoughts
a future we fear,
ready,
on the wing, the
march.
Overtaken by them
sprinting from
behind us
under the shadow
of the birds
giant raptors
looming, coming,
parting, climbing
skyward.
