as in a dream, sleeping

sapping our strength

separating us from God

slowly, surely

the way of the world

lulled into sleep

the narcotic of deception

at rest, not on guard

a casual omission

in the bosom of the enemy

exposed, at risk

sleeping in the arms

ones who would hurt us

vulnerable to attack

when we least expect it.
