Listen deeper for their words
the words they have chosen
how they describe their life
their path, their life’s journey
Do the adjectives, the nouns,
the verbs speak of sorrow
of anger, of pain, abandonment
do they hope for tomorrow
The words of their story
what is truly important
the depth of the breach
the break in their circle
New before me,
their lives ripped open,
what words do they use
to tell their life’s story
