I will not strike you

God’s promise to Moses,
to protect His people,
I will pass over you, the Spirit,
no wrath will befall you,
your family, your people;
death will pass over you
if I see my sign, blood of the lambs
on the doorposts, the lintels
of your hearts, your homes.

I will not strike you
your God, your Master, your Lord
I will pass over you, your homes,
when I pour out my wrath on Egypt
I will not take your firstborn
If I see the sign, the blood
on the doorframes of your houses
this will be the sign of your faithfulness
your commitment to me

Today, the same, the promise
of life, of redemption, salvation
marked by God’s sign
the blood of the Lamb;
God’s sacrifice, God’s protection
on the doorposts of our hearts
by the blood of the Great I Am
the Savior, the Son
of our Lord, Christ Jesus.
