My God, my God, why do I forsake You?
“My God, my God,
why have You forsaken me?
Why don’t You save me,
when I cry out in anguish?”
Such is the lament,
the cry of the Psalmist, the people
oppressed, persecuted
in struggle, in pain.
In truth our lament
should be self-centered
not focused on the Father
for God is always with us.
My God, my God,
why do I forsake You?
Why don’t I trust in You
when You love me so much?
Why do we struggle in the flesh
so far from being faithful;
why are we mired in the mud
the clay of this earth?
