a fatal flaw from the beginning – v3
rot in the foundation, the sill,
the stones that they placed there
the mahogany church’s structure;
poison in the batter, the recipe,
in the coming together, the union;
a false sense of harmony
when the rift was already present;
a fatal flaw from the beginning
just waiting to explode.
a fatal flaw from the beginning
the die cast before they began
a crack in the communion chalice
a pulled thread in the tapestry;
schism, division, papered over
so soon to find light, oxygen
to be written into the contract
so long left unanswered, unresolve,
a festering wound unhealed.
ancient divisions exacerbated
a sea change in the wider culture
divorce painful but needed for so long;
now is the time for separation, for a parting,
for the truth to be lived out in the open
the crack widening, the seam ripped
a schism already started
comity wearing out, tension,
a need for a new day.
