we do not love ourselves

 

The golden rule is not enough

to love our neighbors as ourselves;

This command is compromised, limited,

by the way we love ourselves

 

We do not love ourselves;

We hold onto judgement,

our pain, our sins

of the past, the present.

 

We do not see ourselves

as lovable, as worthy of love;

We do not see us through God’s eyes

through the sacrifice of Christ.

 

We must love as Christ loved us,

as Christ loves us still,

because we don’t love ourselves;

We must love as Christ loved us,

as Christ loves us yet.
