Watching over the congregation,
caring for the flock, the sheep,
from the back of the sanctuary,
from the aisles, the servant,
sharing the joy of worship,
the community of believers,
one bulletin, one smile at a time,
one greeting, one handshake,
being Your usher…

You stole my faith

The place I found meaning
The space I touched God.
 
You rained down evil
You justified hate
Making me homeless
Leaving me with regret.

Small, by design
assigned seats
for the congregation
their lots, their tents,
encircling the Tabernacle
tents giving way to houses
gingerbread, bright colors,
memory if summers
out on the Vineyard.

Pushed, not jumping,

to be sure the truth comes out;

Cast to the wind, into the maelstrom,

callous, not caring the awful cost.

 

Cut off from others,

denied community;

Cast out of their circle,

the Family of Love.

 

Sent into the abyss,

the world, the street, the pit;

Cast off, broken, forgotten,

valued only as lost.

To become the Body of Christ – v3

To become the Body of Christ – v3

 

To become the Body of Christ,

to live out our commission,

to pull in the same direction,

we must lose ourselves

our divisions, our agendas.

 

We must take on Christ

as a fabric melting

fusing with ourselves

with our whole beings.

 

To become the Body of Christ,

to live out our commission,

we must love as Christ loves us;

We must offer hope, a helping hand,

to our loved ones, our neighbors.
