Soaring as they were climbing - v2

Royalty, raptors, osprey,
hawks and other predators
Kings and queens of the food chain
rising to the heights.
 
Not a ladder, a series of rungs,
an invisible staircase leading
the thermals calling to them
rising, higher, higher…
 
Soaring as they were climbing
pausing, pushing ever higher
Riding above the treetops
looking for their lunch.
