Sailing single-file - v2

Sailing single-file
a line of mallard ducklings
swimming across the tiny pond
as if tethered one to another...
 
Was the first one a mother,
I mused, as I passed by so quickly,
driving on the road near home
leading us to work.
 
Cutting through the water
like a knife through butter
soon to climb the near shore,
to bask in the early-summer warmth.
