Don’t listen to the Snake

Don’t listen to the darkness, the silence,
within our walls, our rooms, our minds.
Don’t listen to the snake, the enemy,
the poison welling up, dragging us,
pulling us into the pit, the abyss…
 
Fear is the bile, the poison,
the snake, the beast, our enemy,
sapping our joy, love, our peace,
seizing every opportunity, usurping,
attacking every chink in our armor, pain.
 
Death, Satan, the same, certain, stalking,
following us, silent, watching, present,
when we let down our guard, pouncing,
pulling us under the waters, drowning,
stealing our strength, no air, no breath.
 
Despair, fear, loss, conforming,
wandering in the pit, in the valley,
so far from our path, the light,
the living waters, our journey,
calling, purpose, our way in this life.
 
Don’t listen to the snake, the calling,
of Satan, of Fear, run from the siren’s song.
Cleave to the light, the truth, the hope,
Love abiding within us, our strength.
Hold onto the promises of God.
