The present memory of that day

The present memory of that day,
three years of living hell,
like a shard in the flesh, pain,
cutting, digging, shrapnel present, 
never to be removed, indwelling, 
part of you, but it will not stop you...
 
You each carry that day with you,
the start of the full-scale scale invasion, 
deafening crush of the air raid sirens,
constancy of these moments,
present reality, a shard cutting,
a weight each of you endure...
