Channeling Taras,
his essence,
Ukraine’s Bard speaking through me,
words written in cursive, in verse,
in a different cadence, a rhythm
not my own, unfamiliar,
as if from his own hand…
a kindred spirit,
a vessel empty,
ready to be filled,
giving to the power,
of his words, of his love…
his desires, his sorrows,
as one in the diaspora,
the orphan, the widows,
His true love, Ukraina,
the Kozaks in chains…
his words rising before me,
open to his spirit,
to his presence, his power,
His calling to me,
to once again speak…
captured from the wind,
the gossamer, the sky,
from the air, from the ether,
Flying from the steppes,
back to the mighty Dnipro…
from his far-off fortress,
from the open great grave,
in prison, in bondage,
Tormented by this war,
like his beloved, Ukraina…
Channeling Taras, the
Kobzar,
speaking the words I have been gifted,
Not questioning the spirit, alive,
being his voice, his witness,
to the bravery of his people,
His nation, now fighting for freedom,
for independence from the Moskals…
