Actors – v2

Actors, donning the mask of another,
Wearing our giving on our sleeves,
Like those in scripture, in public,
Seeking attention, fame, fortune,
In the eyes of our neighbors,
Broken vessels of clay…

Actors, hypocrites, seeking attention,
Comparing ourselves to others,
All of us disingenuous, artificial,
Focused solely on ourselves,
Not humbly giving, in secret,
Broken vessels of clay…

Too long have I been broken – v2

Too long have I been broken,
unsure of my direction, my purpose,
feeling certain that I am on the wrong path,
but not knowing how to change, to turn,
anxiety, depression, worry the chains I carry,
wanting to have meaning in my life, a calling,
to find love in this life, hope in my dreams…

Too long have I been broken,
choosing to follow, to bend my will,
to set down my hopes, my dreams, trapped,
soldiering on, ever, head down, eyes forward,
not seeing what I have lost, what I didn’t choose,
lost in the world, on a path not my own, wandering,
unsure of anything, within my spirit, my soul…

Too long have I been broken,
but God still reaches for me, for each of us,
calling us by name, for a calling, a purpose,
loving us as we are, even though we curse Him,
when we stray, we wander, God still makes a way,
a path for us to follow, to turn, to find a hope, a hope,
a reason for our living, meaning for our days…

In bondage

Seeking earthly approval,
Human judgement, praise,
Enslaved, a prisoner, trapped,
In bondage within our spirit,
Destroyed our own lives…

Lost days, years, striving,
Chasing earthly treasure,
Seeking approval in this life,
Reward from our peers,
From hearts of broken clay…

Needing to let go, to release,
No longer seeking approval,
Raising our eyes to heaven,
Seeking approval, praise,
From our loving God above…

Chains of our own making – v3

Seeking their approval,
From the crowd, the chorus,
Carrying heavy weights,
Chains of our own making,
Not being at peace, centered,
Fearing the judgment of man,
Not the approval of God…

Seeking acknowledgement,
Credit for our giving, our charity,
Our empty gestures, appearance,
An affect, a charade, a canard,
All about the optics, the praise,
Fearing the judgment of man,
Not the approval of God…

Lost, self-centered, striving,
For attention, for earthy praise,
Applause for our weak efforts,
Credit for the lies we tell ourselves,
In these moments, our actions,
Fearing the judgement of man,
Not the approval of God…

Too many are actors on the stage,
Playing a part, seeking applause,
Recognition for their every move,
They are not authentic, genuine,
giving with a servant's heart,
Only fearing the judgement of man,
Not the approval of God…

Chains of our own making – v2

Seeking their approval,
Carrying heavy weights,
Chains of our own making,
Fearing the judgment of man,
Not the approval of God…

Seeking acknowledgement,
Credit for our giving, our charity,
All about the optics, the praise,
Fearing the judgment of man,
Not the approval of God…

Lost, self-centered, striving,
For attention, for earthy praise,
In the moments, our actions,
Fearing the judgement of man,
Not the approval of God…

Praise is a drug

Praise is a drug,
An elixir, a potion,
Praise on this earth,
Numbs our spirits, our souls...

The fear of man is a poison,
A lie we tell ourselves,
Fear is death, corrosive,
Numbing our spirits, our souls ...

Praise is fleeting – v2

Praise is fleeting,
It can be taken away,
Trusting in man, in mortals,
More than our God…

Wanting to be seen,
To be credited, valued,
Trusting vessels of clay,
More than the Almighty…

Praise is a drug,
Recognition, purpose,
Rewards on the earth,
Losing our valley to heaven…

Bondage

Seeking approval,
Human judgement,
Bondage of the spirit,
Destroyed lives…

Needing to let go,
To raise eyes to heaven,
Seeking approval, praise,
From God above…

Lost days, years,
Chasing earthly treasure,
Approval in this life,
From broken clay…

A trap, a snare – v2

The fear of man is
a trap, a snare,
Seeking recognition,
no acceptance, fearing
Their harsh judgement…

The fear of man is
a trap, a snare,
Seeking approval,
a judgement, an open mouth,
The maw of oppression…

The fear of man is
a trap, a snare,
An opioid for the masses,
actors on the stage,
Seeking fleeting approval…

Actors, donning the mask of another,
Wearing our giving on our sleeves,
Seeking attention, fame, fortune,
In the eyes of our neighbors,
Broken vessels of clay…

Actors, hypocrites, seeking attention,
All of us disingenuous, artificial,
Focused solely on ourselves,
Broken vessels of clay…

The fear of man

Centered on self,

On approval of others,
Seeking status, praise,
Here in the world…

The fear of man,
Judgement, disapproval,
Focus on humans,
Not on heaven above…

All about the optics – v2

We live for the spotlight,
On the stage, in the arena,
We draw attention to ourselves,
Seeking earthly rewards…

It is all about the optics,
Praise here from others,
Seeking acknowledgement,
From broken creatures of clay…

Lowly, yet self-centered,
Narcissists to an extent, inward,
Seeking adorations, praise,
While we walk on the earth…

When we should look upward,
To our God in heaven,
We should seek praises,
From eternity, above…

Praise is an illusion – v2

Praise is an illusion,
As fleeting as a rainstorm,
A breath, a whisper,
A drop in the ocean,
In the ether, of life...

Praise is fickle,
Fleeting, a cypher,
An opioid, a drug,
A lie we tell ourselves,
When the spotlights are on…
