I’m not moving – v2

“I don’t know about you,
but I’m good
I’m not moving;
my feet are hurting…
and I am tired.”

Was this the dialogue
her bold statement
between a wife and husband -
the birth of farming
many thousand years ago?

Was it just because someone
liked the view before them
the place seemed good to them
they were tired
and their feet hurt too?

Dropping the seeds
in the bags they carried
into verdant soil
the Fertile Crescent
ablaze with grains of life.

I’m not moving
imagining the conversation
that led to the birth of farming

Earth Mother – v3

thankful to a Creator
to a Father God
to a nurturing world
thankful for an earth mother
a fuller picture, all of life,
for planting, for harvest
for watering and tending
cycles in their farming
for blessing on the land

My Land – v4

Walls between us
our neighbors ourselves
setting us apart
words defining
that moment in time
“my land”, set in one place

My land, these words
separating our world
ownership, protection
walling off neighbor
claiming land as their own
passed on to descendants

My land, not yours
for my own purpose
now claiming the land
fixed in one place
no longer nomads, gatherers
now people bound to the earth

Farming

No longer gathering
roaming the land
planting, growing
staying, a home
farming one plot
grains for a harvest
living in villages
boundaries for spaces

Praying to the Wind

before gods and goddesses
praying to the wind
for crops in their season
the forces of nature
dependent upon them
exposed on the land

spinning wool

domesticating animals
gathering them in
centered together
not roaming the lands
sharing together

spinning wool from animals
