we bow down before Him

at His manger bed

we kneel in submission

at the foot of the cross

we are so unworthy

of Christ's submission

leaving heaven

to climb our cross

First Sunday of Advent

Pulling out Kudzu – v4

Worse than dandelions,

more tenacious

than poison ivy,

an invasive species

unwanted, connected;

Woven into the vine

the soil, the ground

the very fabric of our lives

of the world

Tares with the wheat

but no time to wait for harvest

for the difference more clear

the kudzu spreading

intertwined within;

Needing to be pulled out

no matter the pain

nothing remaining

of the weeds

The roots, the vines,

the invasive species

entwined within,

pulling out the kudzu

the briers, the dead stuff;

The roots deep remaining

pulling them out too,

ignoring the thorns,

doing what must be done

Like the firmament, Creation,

strands of history pulled up

from the waters, from the pages

the Book of Life, written;

The history of the world, of God’s people,

cascading forward, waves

a ripple through time, threads written

until the end of time, the end of the age.
