Gathering Sheep
We are the staff
the gathering rod
sent into the world
to gather lost sheep
where they have wandered
out of our pews
the walls of our buildings
out into the world
to find those who are lost
in the wilderness
away from God
that all may be found
brought into the flock once more
into the loving arms of God

Willing Hearts Only
God can provide the rest
wanting willing hearts only
he provides the gifts
for us to do his work
We must only submit
turn our wills over
being willing to serve
God will provide what is needed

Like all who have gone before
doubting their metal
their ability
to serve the kingdom

the children of the king
the people in his pasture
secure in his embrace
from this place of safety

Carrying the Lost Sheep
On the arms of the people
on our shoulders
carrying the lost sheep
bringing our brothers, our sisters
back to our shepherd
into the sheepfold
into the family of God
Ours the hands that find them
that lift them up from the earth

Get up from your pews
believer all around
go out and find those sheep
wandering in the world
away from the father
out in the cold
struggling without the flock
wandering in the world
needing to be brought back to God
with their kith and kin

A Lost Sheep
For so long a lost sheep
a prodigal son out in the world
far from home
away from the shepherd
yet hearing his voice
ever calling to me
seeking me, where I was
in the wilderness
in the darkness
the dust of the earth
like the lost coin
tarnished but now found
gathered in by God
into his arms
into the hands of the creator
into the sheepfold
the family of God.

Hope in My Hand
What do we hold in our hand
he asked each loving heart
all of us gathered in worship
the words of God,
the pen in my hand
but hope is what I hold
in the palm of my hand
always to share the good news
the love of the lamb
who came and died that I may live
good news to spread to the ends of the earth
just as Christ commands

remembering, ever,
He knew, he was fully aware
that which they/we could not comprehend
The sacrifice, his body
broken, fulfilling all scripture
the ancient words of the prophet
the lamb, his blood, given, poured out

to the others, strangers,
those we do not know
sheep in the world
maybe away from the flock
perhaps they are eager
seeking You as we are
wanting to know God
to be part of the good news
the change that can be
out into the world
if we would but go to them
where they are
messengers of God’s love

Where we are not yet connected
So many places, so near to us
where we are not yet connected
where our voices have not been heard
bringing the message of Christ
the hope in the good news
the promise, the grace of God
Needing to be more courageous
to use what we have been given
to take up what is in our hands
and go out into the world
to reach our neighbors where they are
not only sitting in church

Outside
Beyond our walls
shouting out their names
places we have not gone
those we have not touched
where we have not shared
the healing message of Christ
Too timid to go
outside, into our world
so close to us, our neighbors
yet outside, beyond out doors
waiting for us still
to come and enter in

So mindful
present in my thoughts this morning
that transfixing moment
the towers falling
our gasps, holding our breath
not believing our eyes
how fast, shattering
the billows of the smoke
the roar of hell
consuming so much
in those moments of insanity
utter destruction
changing our nation
the world on that morning
carved into our memories
never to be forgotten
