Glass Dump

In the history of the city
long forgotten, buried
the remains in the ground
glass, metal, wood, bone
crockery, leather, a toy marble
the history of the city
preserved in the ground

Behind the stores,
before the fields
down near the river
beyond the woods
and the raspberry vines
a bottle dump
exposing
the remains
of last century’s turning
the history of the city
in the ground
in shallow graves
