None of us will admit that we are defiant,
yet we purposefully turn from God,
We each are the prodigal, the son, the daughter,
who has left our home, our protection,
the place where we are loved,
We each have rebelled against the Father,
not trusting our days, our decisions,
our will to God, daily...
We break the heart of God
as Adam did in the Garden...
We separate ourselves from God,
His unending love...
 
We act, we don’t think, in rebellion,
We trust ourselves, our instincts...
We walk in the same ruts,
We seek healing and relief
from the pain, the struggles,
the burdens we carry...
We do not go first to God
for our daily bread,
for our peace, our trust,
so weak, so broken, crying out...
We separate ourselves from God,
His unending love...
