A stirring in this moment, rising from the grave,
High above the mighty Dnipro, the bard, the Kobzar,
Awakened by their fight, their struggle,
the crucible of war, ancient power,
liberation of these people, freedom,
resolute in this time, this turning,
ready, leaning in on themselves, their unity,
every soul that ever bled for this nation
marshalling their will to honor, to follow,
a challenge He had written, Glory,
buried in the tomb so long ago…

In this time of struggle, a change in the wind,
A stirring in the land, rising, spirits,
against the power of Russia’s onslaught,
no longer just their fight alone, this generation,
others, ancients are joining with them…
Perched high upon this mountain, his hilltop,
A tremor is heard, above the mighty Dnipro,
The Bard awakens, stirs in his tomb, restless,
for His is The Great Grave, where Ukraine’s Glory
was hidden, safeguarded, on the heights…

Not in the grave of Bohdan, of the Hetman,
as they had imagined, no, in the bard, the Kobzar…
The Glory of Ukraine has been opened, awakened,
His great grave is revealed for Ukraine’s power,
treasure that Moskals fought for that was hidden,
is sung from the heights, for history, memory,
their prayers over the defenders, their hope,
together Kobzars, black-haired maidens…
All sing songs of their victory, triumph,
for their boundless love of Ukraine…

Today’s warriors are his kinsmen,
together, resolute in this battle
living suspended lives of sacrifice…
A rumble, a stirring of their spirits,
standing against Moskals once more,
the same evil as before, criminals,
seeking to steal, to destroy, to take,
to subjugate, to brutalize, to assimilate,
to rob Ukraine of its treasure,
her identity, her homeland…
 
The Great Grave has been opened,
Shevchenko, the guardian, the protector,
Glory of every Hero, this fight, their history,
the Cossacks, the Hetman, the Kobzar
rising from their slumber, their fitful rest,
every warrior fallen, their honored dead,
joining with the defenders now in battle,
knowing it is time for justice, for awakening
for the rising of their people, for Ukraine,
to be restored, to finally be free…

The Great Grave has been opened – v2

The rising of her children
Ukraina’s best sons and daughters,
answering the call of duty, of freedom,
their love for their homeland…
 
Shevchenko’s prayer has been answered,
The Great Grave has been opened,
the spirit of the Kozaks, the Hetman,
have descended from mountain slumber…
 
They fight beside you, for glory,
for the restoration with you,
for the freedom of your people.
the victory of your homeland, Ukraine…
 
The Great Grave finally opened,
ancient glory that we sing of,
Kobzars and the black-haired maidens,
sing their mighty songs…
 
High on the heights, the tombs,
Kozaks rise from their rest,
fighting with the heroes, the warriors,
until Ukraine’s victory is won…

(The prophecy fulfilled)
 
The time of exile has been completed,
the judgement of God upon the people,
stuck between heaven and hell,
the prophecy fulfilled, completed,
lifting the curse over the people,
the spell has been broken
a light is now coming, rising,
the Great Grave is about to open…
 
Fidelity to their nation,
the Kozaks, Hetman, the Kobzars,
the memory of ancient glory,
to the cause of freedom, their songs,
the chains of the curse being lifted,
their eyes open, united together,
one chance for a future, a hope,
a return to their past glory…
 
High upon a mountain, a hilltop,
a tremor, above the mighty Dnipro,
the Bard stirs in his tomb, restless,
for His is The Great Grave,
the glory of Ukraine has been opened,
together with the Kobzars,
the black-haired maidens
all sing songs of their victories,
for their love of Ukraine…

Channeling Taras – v2

Channeling Taras,
the Bard speaking to me,
the words I have written,
as if from his own hand…
 
Finding me willing,
a vessel empty,
giving to the power,
of his words, his love…
 
Seeking his black-haired beauty,
his true love, Ukraina,
the orphan, the widows,
the Kozaks in chains…
 
Channeling Taras,
open to his spirit,
to his calling to me,
to once again speak…
 
Finding the words,
from the air, from the ether,
flying from the steppes,
back to the Dnipro…
 
Once more he calls me,
from his far-off fortress,
in prisons, in chains,
like his beloved, Ukraine…
 
Channeling Taras,
being his voice, his witness,
the bravery of his people,
his nation, fighting for freedom,
for independence from the Moskals…

The rising of her children
Ukraina’s best sons and daughters,

The Great Grave being opened

Moskal’s anger was brought upon
the Kobzars, the three bards,
all who fought against them,
Bodhan found buried naked,
in an empty tomb…
 
But the song continues higher,
the melodies, the folksongs,
of the ancient treasure remaining,
the Great Grave was undiscovered,
on the mountain heights…
 
Now, in this moment, today,
a turning of the story, the people,
the descendants of the Kozaks rising,
standing resolute against the aggressor,
the sum of Moskal’s rage…
 
Evoking the memory, triumph,
of those when they vanquished,
the Kobzars’ songs of glory,
the Great Grave being opened,
great treasure to be revealed…
 
The glory of the people, freedom,
independence from cruel masters,
a rising tide, a hope in the land,
free from the Moskals, the horde,
a coming peace to Ukraina…

Three bards

ancient bones only discovered
but the treasure not recovered
Moskal’s anger brought upon
the Kobzars, the three bards…
 
speaking of misfortune,
of the hero, of the broken,
Bodhan buried naked,
in an empty tomb…
 
But the sone continues higher,
of the ancient treasure remaining,
the Great Grave undiscovered,
on the mountain heights…

Like the friends of Job – v2

their conversation reeling,
an ancient dance revealing,
the struggle of the people,
to stand strong, resolute,
caught between heaven and hell…
 
he is the interlocutor, the witness,
the judge and jury, the hangman,
sitting on the judgement seat,
what an awful thought, being held,
caught between heaven and hell…
 
they are judged, convicted, sentenced,
for seemingly small transgressions,
eternal condemnation, sentenced,
to eternal damnation, a life,
caught between heaven and hell…
 
like the friends of Job
their conversations reeling,

the Great Grave empty, barren,
caught between heaven and hell…

Like the friends of Job

the conversation reeling,

Three souls

Three souls cursed by the people,
implicated in evil, the Moskal path,
submitting to evil, acquiescing,
not standing resolute, for Ukraine…
 
Three crows, the nations exposed,
bound to the path of evil,
compromised, fount of evil, of power,
caught, juxtaposed, in equipoise…
 
Three bards, the Kobzars,
an echo of their power,
bending the knee to evil,
unable to rise above…
 
One Great Grave to plunder,
one hope dashed on the heights,
a desperate struggle against evil,
before all hope is lost…

A Faustian Tragedy

A cautionary tale, a dream,
the sorrow of my homeland,
giving up so quickly,
our freedom, our independence…
 
A reproach to our neighbors,
to the ones who would come behind us,
three souls barred from heaven,
mocked on this earth…
 
A Faustian bargain, a tragedy,
giving up life, liberty,
in quiet acquiescence,
in submission to evil…
 
A reproach, a reminder,
of the treachery of evil,
receiving so little,
but costing so much.

Are the people blind

Fallen from the heights
subservient to their master,
the awful cost to freedom,
the kernel of hope dormant…
 
Are the people blind,
beaten into submission,
the awful cost of compliance,
the bending of the knee…
 
Crippled, contorted, hunchbacked,
three souls barred from heaven,
subservient, compliance, bound up,
in chains of their own making…
 
Are the people blind,
seeking The Great Grave of the Hetman,
the ancient fount of freedom,
high upon the heights…
