On the Walk – v2

It wasn’t where they were going,
it was their walk, the conversation, revelation
they were on the walk, their journey
that fateful Easter day, walking out of the city
a short walk away, away from the cross, His grave
confusion of the events, the claims,
disbelief, the Messiah dead, but stories already
of an empty tomb, surprises, miracles with the dawn

There they met Christ, anew, in wonderment
incomprehensible, amazing, our Shepherd alive
walking on the road with the Savior
hearing His story anew, new eyes,
with different understanding, perhaps
But full awareness, epiphany, in His blessing,
the bread and the wine. Jesus alive with them
walking on that journey, on that journey home.

Water Shaping Stone – v2

His life changed, over time
like water shaping stone,
carving the rock with
the force of a torrent,
the crash of the waves,
the etching of the ice moving;
but shaping stone too,
with droplets of waters
summer rains,
trickles down the mountainside
cutting into stone,
in little cleft points,
places where faith can
gather a foothold
seeds can find a purchase,
scales can be flaked away
and change came, for him
like water shaping stone

Black Ice – v2

Words to evoke a horrible memory
to put a chill within me.
What was the weather forecast;
what did they say? Black ice?
Words that harken back, bring me
to a moment of sadness, of loss
Seeing you, the car, the chaos
Black ice, no control, nowhere to go
between the shoulders, the lines,
unknown when or where
the ice had taken over
where the surface was no more
and the ice was in control
no traction, no steering,
Hidden danger, black ice
lurking in the dark.

Chartreuse Greening – v2

Spring quickly-growing
alive in the water
weeks of rain infusing
all the land with color
softness of the new leaves
buds unfurling, bursting
chartreuse greening
into deeper hues
spectrum expanding
the forest still alive, open
sharing hidden treasure

Spring Morning Light – v2

This morning, that spring-morning-light,
something special, magical, the low dim, soft light
illumining the reaching treetops, yearning for the light
the nascent buds, the flowers, farther down, unfiltered
translucent, glowing a cherry red,
burnt orange highlights, accents, dabbed as by a brush
a warming sun, not yet hot, awaking the forest, the woods
just off the highway, still visible into the thin groves
before the summer leaves block the view
spring morning light, washing through,
more than filtered light, shining spotlight still
down to the forest floor, all the woods awash, bathed
in that wondrous spring morning light

Blond Hair Shimmering – v2

Her blond hair shimmering
in low morning sunlight
accented by chartreuse and goldenrod
the sun hiding, not visible
behind the house across the street
Only it’s light, shining
lighting up the willow tree
the branches hanging, filaments, not dreadlocks
light blond hair just washed and combed
each strand illumined, as if from within
bright, glowing, calling my attention
touches of green bleeding through
where the shoots are blooming
bursting, hastening spring time
just days away now

changing our behavior

not about things outside
the world around
what we put inside
about our words,
how we walk in this life
our behaviors, our motives
betray us in time
Changing our behaviors
conformed to God’s word
a lesson within there
for those who believe
who take their time
who immerse in the word
changing in the wisdom
deep inside the word

Jesus the Christ – 2 – v3

not Jesus Christ
a name, merely,
Jesus the Christ
his title, his station
The Messiah, God
come down to earth
living and dying
rising from the grave
to give life to all

A place of union – v2

let this sanctuary
this body, this people,
the living body of Christ
may this be a joining
a place of union
coming into the vine
merged forever
may the others find welcome
peace for their minds
open and willing, ever,
finding open arms, waiting
to welcome them in

God of discomfort

God of transformation
speak to me clearly
loudly, pushing me
out of my comfort,
my complacency, my path
show me where to go
what to do, for You
God of discomfort
lift me from my pew
show me where to serve

a mirror on the soul

without boundaries
without limits
God’s space for more
all at the table
room for one more
never bound
by limits, edges
arms open wide
endless, endless
