on the rim of the spinning top – v2

at the outskirts of the milky way
surfing the fine edges
larger than life
as if we were able
on the rim of the spinning top
no traction, no purchase
holding on by mere balance
making it so

buffeted, spinning
riding the tempest
caught in the maelstrom
yanked, twisted,
holding on for dear life
wanting only to listen
to advocate for wisdom
for peace in this moment

warring factions swinging
battle lives hardened,
in the midst of the conflagration
standing in center of the storm
the fire of passion, objectives,
in the switchbacks of conversations
some picking rocky outcrops
no common ground

is this the model
what we desire
our way of empathy
hearing divergent voices
but not valuing their feelings
caught in that middle
the push and the pull
wanting to calm the waters
but the oil is on fire

My Lamp Ready – v4

Oh to be able to shout
to proclaim before Jesus
boldly, with confidence,
that my heart was prepared
my lamp ready, filled, burning
that I was awake and ready
for the return of my Master

Living as worship
living out my witness
sharing the light freely
untroubled by the world
at peace ever in my spirit
anxiously waiting, ready
awake in that night

Christ, the bridegroom to return
His coming in secret
as a thief in the night
only known, revealed,
in God’s timing alone
unknown to you and me;
yet we know because he promised

We must be faithful
to see eternity, the streets of gold,
to be with our Master
walking the path of our Savior
work to be done, here, now
to prepare for our Master
when he comes in Glory

riding the tempest

buffeted, spinning
sometimes in the middle
riding the tempest
caught in the maelstrom
holding on for dear life

yanked, twisted,
wanting only to listen
to advocate for justice
for peace in this moment

warring factions swinging
battle lives written, hardened,
in the midst of the conflagration
standing in the crucible, the storm

the fire of passion, position,
in the switchbacks of conversation
some picking hard sides
polar opposites

is this the model
the way of empathy
hearing divergent voices
needing to reach consensus
but not valuing their feelings

we are witnesses too – v2

as if we had lived back then
like the brothers from Joppa
as heirs with them
we join with Peter
with the first disciples
the followers of Christ

we are witnesses
of God’s might, God’s power
the One man crucified
God raised from the dead
we join with them
walking in the Way
our lives like theirs joined
our journey from the grave

as the signs of springtime – v2

As the signs of springtime
new shoots of our journey
slowing our steps to see
the signs of new life

God’s Spirit welling up
God present with us
here along with us on our path
to lead, to guide us

Our fears falling away
attacking our demons
lifting us onto our feet
to follow the Spirit’s leading

the brothers from Joppa – 2 - v2

the scripture recording
these fellow Jews, believers
the brothers from Joppa
commissioned to go with him
to follow Peter
as he followed God

part of the purpose
the fellow believers
sent with him
to bear witness
the coming of the Spirit
to see the fire

the light of God’s love
falling on them
Gentiles now commissioned
kissed by the Spirit
to go like them
following the Way

not fearing change – v2

welcoming God’s intervention
submitting to God’s will
into his hands
our lives as an offering
giving to Christ, to God
our bodies, our hope
offering humbly
our gifts, our essence
our very lives in his hands
to use as he will
not fearing change
open to God’s call
our lives vessels
to be filled, to be poured
wishing to be faithful
promising our presence
to give of our gifts
poured out in God’s world
