A Stone’s Throw Farther

Going to the Mount of Olives
the garden, Gethsemane
our master,
a stone’s throw farther
heavy with sleep
yet sensing deep dread

Jesus going into the garden
falling heavy
to his knees
praying, shouting
to God in heaven
“let this cup
pass from my lips”

But something further
more like a whisper
barely audible
even in the still of the night
Jesus humbly, submitting
turning his life over
submitting to God’s holy will
