The pears while mowing

Aunt Sue’s side yard
up on the hill
heavy pedaling
with my bike
up to do the mowing

One of the times
late enough in the season
the pears ripe for the picking
in her one unkempt tree

Not tended
or pruned
wild and enticing
the fruit sweet
to go with my sweat

Stopping to savor
the juice down my chin
smiling broadly
as I drank it all in
