I #touched the #brains of my #father – v2

I touched the brains of my father
on the back seat where he landed;
I saw him naked, zipped in a red carpetbag,
laid out like President John F. Kennedy.
 
I lifted his blood-drenched jacket,
looking for his wedding band in his heel-shaped change purse;
I smelled the mix of chemicals in his snow-covered car,
waiting, parked in their impound lot.
 
I faced his mortality, his death,
on the night of his black-ice fatal crash;
I helped Mom spread his ashes,
sharing them with the mountain that he loved.

– about cleaning out my father’s car the day after his fatal accident. The weather was very cold and the passenger door was where the gearshift would be. The license plate of the car that ran into his was there too. The glasses he wore were in the right rearmost spot and his watch was in the left rearmost part of the car. The driver seat was broken backward from the force of the accident and his blood was on the backseat where he landed.
