Standing at the register my hands shaking violently,
Crying, trying to maintain my composure
Her yelling getting louder, louder,
A viciousness unparalleled in my experience
In many years at the counter.
All for a lousy dollar
A fraudulent coupon rejected
Torn up, thrown back at me, demanding
That I honor its value, $1 off,
A pair of coffee pods, this instant.
Stepping away, sobbing, wailing,
A primal scream outside
Too frequently accepting the abuse
The manifestation of privilege
Too many in full Karen mode.
