Coming around the corner,
a familiar way I travel,
a back way home
after a long day,
So ready to return,
to be at peace, at rest.
Anticipating this moment
A recurring bit of beauty, of nature,
The trees on fire, aglow,
the pines lit from behind, below,
Oranges and yellows competing
in meter and rhyme.
Light bursting forth
through the layers of trees
in planes of living space
Screens, living curtains,
successive clusters of pines
drawing me ever toward home.
