alone, all alone, in chains,
trapped in the dungeon,
a black-haired maiden
away from her country…
unloved, unwanted,
alone and forgotten
no husband, no good fortune,
alone, without God…
alone, all alone, in chains,
longing for life, for freedom,
wanting to return to the bosom,
to her mother, Ukraine…
