Talking about the earth – v2

Helping a customer, a stranger,
but learning part of their story,
The journey they have traveled,
evoking, triggering memory within,
almost twenty years old.
 
A Cherokee, an underwater welder,
before he stopped working, retiring,
A husband, a cancer survivor,
sharing love, understanding of this place,
this continent, our precious Turtle Island.
 
Assisting a stranger, a customer,
but engaging so much deeper,
Talking about the earth
his life, his experience,
how he came to this moment.
 
Learning, sharing with him,
his wife standing beside him,
Weathering his trials, his journey,
finding kinship, connection in the aisles;
I will not forget his story, his face.

utterly broken, powerless
leaving ourselves on your altar
knowing we are unable

Denizens of the Woods

#hiking onward, windward,
emerging into the clearing
seeing the queen before me
sensing her presence with me
in the living birch
stopping to sit and wait
to watch and listen deeply
until other denizens of the woods
come out to greet me
feeling them all around me
just beyond my vision
knowing they are watching
my every move

tearing us down

fear can be healthy

warning us of danger

but fear can immobilize

chains on our lives

only in trusting God

we escape these chains
