I have not trusted God for protection
because I believed Satan’s lie that He wouldn’t
I have not believed God loves me
because I feared He didn’t, that I was alone,
I settled for the familiar, what I know
not following my heart, my dreams,
not venturing forth, courageous,
holding on to bittersweet
The pain of this now…
I have not risked anything, inertia,
I have not lived, truly, fully,
Pursuing God’s calling on my heart,
Standing in cement, in place,
stuck in my ruts, the familiar,
Praying that this will get better
leaden feet, frozen,
stuck in the quicksand,
trying merely to survive…
I have avoided pain, in stasis,
And yet, pain is what I carry,
not taking a risk, moving forward,
not trusting in God’s promises
I choose the pain of the familiar
not believing He will protect me now…

I have not trusted God for protection
I have not believed He loves me

living fearfully, frozen,
accepting less than I dreamed of,
settling in this life, these ruts,
holding on to bittersweet
far less than I wanted
as if I deserved it, loss,
my lot in life less, far less,
than what I dreamed of
in life, to be fulfilled…
choosing a life with limits, stuck,
avoiding pain, sheltering,
wanting so much more,
to follow my dreams
to risk but I didn’t, I haven’t,
holding on to bittersweet,
my lot in life insufficient
feeling lost, unfulfilled,
never happy in my spirit…

A cloud over our journey,
our walks, in these moments,
longing for more, much more,
but trapped deep within us
echoes of torments, abuse,
pain within our spirits, shadows
over our lives, our walks, sin,
a sentence too great to carry…
Dark thoughts, ideations,
minds torn asunder, folly,
not knowing what to believe
tormented by our demons
muses of the mind chaos
paths we could choose
not knowing what to believe
fearing we are deceived…
Falling for their traps
listening to the sirens,
their songs, their cries
to the sailors, impulsive,
snares of the flesh, captured,
grabbing hold of our spirits
casting us into the waters
no hope for our souls…
Dark thoughts, ideations of
spirits that have been captured
lost on the waves, in the snares,
of those who should be forsaken
avoiding their entreaties, their cries,
swirling in the flesh, in chaos,
drowning under the waters
pulled down into the deep…

Dark thoughts, ideations,
minds torn asunder, folly,
not knowing what to believe
