we need God’s strength – v3

We need God’s strength
because we are weak;
We hope in Him
that we may come home.

We lean on God
as with a walking stick;
we find strength for the journey
hope on our walk.

Did you brace for impact – v2

Were you watching in horror
when the Reaper came calling;
Did you see them coming,
did you brace for impact?

Was it all a blur, in the snow
or did it come in slow motion,
perpendicular to your path
on the frozen highway?

Did you yank on the handle
were you seat-belted;
Did you feel the crush
when he took your life?

Were you aware, awake,
when the Reaper came calling,
your glasses in the trunk
from the force of the collision?

Bringing Word – v4

They are working in God’s vineyard
Bringing Word, His Word
the Good News, the Gospel
to the masses, the sheep of their flock
like water in the desert
week on week, repeating
synthesized meaning in small bites

The ancient text, the Bible;
Knitted with their history
and ours too we know
so we can comprehend, learn,
to understand the deeper meanings
lessons even still, for our lives
in the ancient text

A Spring Rain – v4

The world is wet today
luxurious, damp, drenched
drops hang the leaves,
pulling them downward
they anoint the still-budded lilac blossoms
before their blooming
rich purple and plum
made richer by their watery skin

New leaves under the weight
droplets heavy, hanging,
bowing the white pine needles
their undersides exposed to drink
to drink in the morning
hushed in the rain
the temperature near the dewpoint
the sprouts of just planted flowers

Eager from the parched soil,
the new puddles bloom too
on the ground, the driveway
collect and gather the water together
still without the smell of summer rain yet
tears splash and spread, ripples
silent shimmers, heralds, messengers
in the spring rain this morning

Mile Marker 19 – v8

I drove by the spot again
Today, this afternoon.
Where you lost control.
Where Fate found you
Tired, and unprepared
For Eternity to call you.

What went through your mind
That night in winter,
That split second of time?
Was it anger, surprise, fear
Or were you asleep, tired,
Unaware that the Ice
Held your Destiny?
