Before the throne of God

Before the throne of God

Trying to comprehend, to appreciate,

to give full weight to the moment

seeing more than just a landscape

just minutes before sunset

standing before the crystal sea

before the throne of God.

The fields alive, glowing

the ice reflecting the sunset

ablaze in the afternoon failing

smooth like the crystal sea

the place reserved in heaven

before the throne of God.

Looking toward Katahdin, westward,

to eternity, toward the horizon,

shortly before the day’s sunset

a sea of liquid gold

the ice almost blinding

filling my sight, my view.

A sea of liquid gold

of glass, of living crystal,

alive, shining brightly

the fields off into the distance

bleeding the purity of color

the whole world aglow.

Maybe like Isaiah, the prophet,

knowing how real, how special,

seeing a foretaste, an image

ice smooth like the crystal sea

the throne room, the presence

the dwelling place of God.
