It was always Satan

He was in the field
strewn with garbage
caught in the thorns
for us to see, to touch…
 
He was there in those moments
that changed me forever
He caused me to feel shame
silent when it wasn’t my fault…
 
It was always Satan
speaking his lies to me
He said God didn’t love me,
that He left me in my pain…
 
Alone, in my shame, I listened,
lies sank into my flesh,
His lies condemned me,
keeping me from rest…
 
It was always Satan
But I hid it, silent,
I did not give my pain to God,
In secret they ate me up…
