Resentments – v2

grit foiling the gears,
a pea under the mattress,
burs under the saddle,
sand in our bathing suits,
an itchy clothes label…
 
ephemera written in stone,
ancient pains captured, held,
chiseled on our hearts, our flesh,
scar tissue layered over open wounds,
We must never carry…
 
our list of resentments, our hurts,
if we had forgiven, completely,
if we had let go, forever,
the anger that we carry,
our list would be empty,
a forgotten memory, vapor,
We would have a blank sheet…
 
We must forgive them,
We must release our pain,
We must let go of our anger
our need for retribution, justice,
for our sins have been forgiven
they have been washed clean
by Christ on our cross…
 
smooth skin untrammeled
a peaceful mountain lake
silky clean sheets
an azure sky above us
beauty in the streets…
