like wood covered, varnished,
stained to be beautiful,
on the surface set apart...

strip us bare, Lord,
raw before You fully
transparent in our walk
open to Your correction
to Your healing, oh Lord...

we must come before You naked,
stripped bare of artifice,
of false righteousness...

pour into us wisdom,
acknowledging our failure,
staring at ourselves
in the mirror, naked,
before words of holy scripture...
