Shimmering Fabric – v3

The body of Christ,
the church, universal
a shimmering, living fabric,
precious threads, unique and special,
woven together with love
to show the image of God
to all the world

Shimmering in the darkness,
the faintest light, reflected,
nuanced and changing
living as He did, as we do
in this world; but separate,
set apart, for God’s purposes
being the Son, the Father

Being the hands and feet of God
for all our neighbors
all around the world
sharing the message,
a lamp on a lampstand
a living fabric, shimmering,
dancing in God’s light

At Table – v2

It was at table,
in communion
in simple meals
with the disciples,
with the outcasts,
the sinners
those other rejected
that Christ
revealed himself
eating with us

His true nature,
in the quiet at table
sharing lives, meals
the bread, the cup
the all that was Christ
the man, the Son of God
revealed in subtle
and profound way
at table, in fellowship
eating with us

At the Table – v2

At the table He gathered
with His disciples,
with friends,
with the lost, the last,
the least, the sinners too

Redeemed them, instructed them
He brought wholeness, holiness
in the breaking of bread,
the communal meal
sharing together who He was

The sharing of himself with us
in simple elements
revealing to us all
at the table,
we all share with Christ

The Emmaus Road – v2

Take me on the road, on the path
the journey; let my heart
burn within me at the closeness
the communion with the Lord
the Spirit alight within me
urging me onward, toward Jesus
Let me be His disciple,
walking with Him on the journey
All the days of my life to come
hearing His story, the fulfillment
the proof of God steadfast love,
the Father’s commitment, His grace
heaped on each of us, overflowing,
walking the path with our Brother,
the Son of God, the One who has
made our way straight, the way,
straight back to relationship with God

In the Breaking of Bread – v2

Christ was revealed, no longer the stranger
they met on the road home
the scales shed from their blind eyes
in the breaking of bread
the travelers on the dusty rod
saw Christ in the sharing of the wine
the familiar made holy
Christ’s blessing, His prayer
Remember me; I am with you
in the breaking of the bread
the drinking of the wine
sharing the cup, at home,
true salvation revealed

Fragrance of Christ – v2

Our acts, our loving words
become the fragrance of Christ
The spirit-filled consciousness
of the loving Lamb of God

Memory-laden imagery
of Christ, the rabbi,
the healer, the shepherd
bread to eat, water for our thirst

Rich meaning in His life, His words
mirrored, echoed in our ministry
when we are genuine,
when we walk with our brother

Our acts, conforming
doing our part to do the Father’s will
sharing our witness
God’s light to the world

To the potter – v4

submitting our bodies, our lives,
to the Potter, to the Savior
giving up our control
into His loving hands
our bodies, our lives
like the loaves for the masses
given to be broken
to be shared with the world
in submission, in giving
as we have been given
a life to be sharing
that others may live

Missing His Grace – v2

So busy in his mind
how he thought it should be
the story of Naaman
of healing that almost wasn’t
nearly missing God’s grace

Healed because he stopped
listened to his servants
following the word of the prophet
doing what he had been asked
healed in Jordan’s waters

Life not always
as we have planned it
thinking of slights, anger,
distracting us from His blessing
missing the grace of God

Needing, like Naaman,
to be faithful, obedient,
focused on our Savior,
His healing coming,
not focused on the world

yet I am not silenced by the darkness – v5

I am sustained by the truth that I cling to
in spite of my pain,
my sense that God is not with me
that He doesn’t answer my cries
when I find no peace
yet I am not silenced
by the darkness, this life
for I know deep within me
that God is by my side
journeying with me
in every step of my life

the jar of our flesh – v3

alabaster skin
only but a glove
love held with abandon
given, poured out

the treasure within
our will, God’s Spirit,
held within the body
the jar of our flesh

within our bodies
our love held in clay jars
offered, as Mary did,
broken, poured out
