Christ prayed for the disciples to come

Stop to absorb this, let this truth bleed within you
through your defenses, your doubts, your comfort
gives your hearts to this truth -
Christ prayed for you, for me,
Christ prayed for the disciples to come
on the night of His betrayal
the night that He was captured
led to fulfill His fate
Christ did not forget us
He included us in His prayers
the anguished prayers of the martyr
taking on our sin, but faithful
fulfilling His own destiny
His sacrifice on the cross

On the walls of the sanctuary, you will see names of saints who have gone before us in the stained glass but you will also see vertical stalks all around us. The tinsmiths put these there to remind us we are to the wheat ripe for harvest, ready to be gathered in by God. Look toward the ceilings, the heads of the wheat are ready. There are also sections of the wall and ceiling where we see the shape of vines, as we are connected in the vine. There are places on the ceiling that have the number 7 for perfection, the number 12 for the tribe of Israel and the number 40 for the forty days, the forty years, etc. There is the shape of shepherd staffs on either side of the Good Shepherd stained glass. There is an arch like the shape of the dome leading us into the chancel.

we are sanctified, made righteous

we are sanctified, made righteous
we are saved by our Lord, Christ Jesus
we live in Him, abiding, walking
following our Lord, Jesus
we are saved in and through the Christ
guided by the Spirit breathed within
abiding within out spirit, healing
bringing us to our Lord, Christ Jesus
we are sanctified, made righteous
but that is but the start, the first step
living into the gospel, our calling
serving where we are planted
being the living hands and feet
of our risen Lord and Savior

the doves and the pigeons – v8

Jesus’ outrage, His demand for justice
of restoring the Temple
to a House of prayer
to a House of God
where all would be welcome
feeling God’s presence

Not the whole business
the whole church enterprise
the bankers the merchants
cheating the poor, denying access
prices for the dove and the pigeons
the offerings they had to buy
often with pain, with anguish
from the poor, the least
the lost of the nation

Christ’s anger focused
on the imbalance of power
on the gatekeepers of access
of entry for the poor, the infirm
to the courts of the Temple
into the presence of God
